Allen Porter, who served as a Trustee for more than a decade, was a former Board Treasurer, and spent many years as our Board attorney, passed away on March 16, three days after his 84th birthday.

A graduate of Princeton University and the University of Virginia Law School, Allen was a dedicated volunteer who also served on the Boards of Friends of the Princeton Public Library, the Princeton Library Foundation, the Funeral Consumer Alliance of Princeton and the Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Mercer. He was honored last year for 50 years of legal counsel to The Jewish Center. He also served as the Princeton Planning Board attorney for 40 years.

He loved dancing with his wife, spending time with his family, playing tennis, taking photos, traveling, and cheering for the Princeton University basketball teams, according to his obituary.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rhona, two daughters and a grandson.

Allen was a stalwart of both the Princeton legal community and the philanthropic community, said David Scott, a longtime Community Foundation Trustee and Former Board Chair.

“He was just a prince of a person,” said David. “He was so helpful and kind. He was eager to help his clients, and he provided legal services pro bono to many local nonprofits. He was an excellent attorney who listened well and cared deeply about the Princeton community.”
