If you want to give thanks by giving, and talk it over at the Thanksgiving table, here are three ways to turn dinner chatter into a frank talk on family philanthropy.
Share your own situation. Talk about how and why you have given to charity this year, and how your money is being used. It is easier to get started looking at what you’ve already done.
Use a story. Between mouthfuls of turkey, talk about important work that has benefited from your generosity. If you have photos to share, or first-hand stories to tell, even better.
Offer to lighten the load. Suggest that others around the dinner table share in a collective end-of-the-year donation. It could be your gift to one another, joining together to help others in need with a donation that will last way past the holiday season.
