David J. Bachner, son of Rhonda and Steve Bachner, was a Plainsboro resident and a graduate of West Windsor-Plainsboro High School North, Class of 2009; he died suddenly in his home on Tuesday, August 11, 2009. David was captain of the WW-P North baseball team, and named baseball player of the year by both the Trenton

Times and the Trentonian. In addition, he was All CVC Player of the Year and CVC Left Handed Pitcher of the Decade. During his high school career, David broke numerous records on his way to earning a full scholarship to Seton Hall University. His accomplishments on the baseball field were matched only by his astonishing ability to make those around him smile every day.

The mission of the David J. Bachner Memorial Fund is to provide for three distinct groups of children. The Fund is designed to support young athletes who wish to continue their baseball career and possess the skill, but do not have the funds required to have their skills showcased to secure a college scholarship. The Fund will also contribute to the David J. Bachner scholarship award that will be presented to a deserving graduating WW-P High School North senior. Funds will also be donated to charities for children in need to support other athletic endeavours.

David was not only a fine athlete, but also a person who was caring of others. It was David’s dream to play professional baseball and to use his career to sponsor and mentor children, who would not otherwise have had the opportunity to be exposed to sports, and the boundless benefits and impact that athletics have on kids. Although David was with us a short period of time, he has left a lasting impression on those he met and made their lives better for knowing him. His legacy will live on through his memorial fund.

The David J. Bachner Memorial Fund is a tribute to David’s life and interests and a reminder not only of his athletic ability, but also a tribute to the difference David would have made had he had the opportunity. It is in this spirit that we honor his memory and will carry out what he would have wanted to do himself, had he lived. Please help support the David J. Bachner Memorial Fund.
