A new bill to address chronic absenteeism in New Jersey schools has been signed, creating a task force that will study statewide attendance trends and pay special attention to the lasting effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on student engagement. At the Princeton Area Community Foundation, we are focused on improving the lives of children in our region, and we know that education can be a path out of poverty, but poverty can also prevent children from getting to class.
We’re thrilled that we will have the opportunity to recommend one member of this Task Force.
Our VP of Grants, Programs, and Community Relations, Nelida Valentin was also interviewed for the article linked below, sharing insights on how chronic absenteeism affects children and communities.
