Thriving Women, Thriving Communities

Our vision: A community where women and girls reach their full potential

Our mission: To improve the lives of economically vulnerable women and girls in Mercer County through community investment, education and collaboration

Founded in 1998, the Fund for Women and Girls is a group of members dedicated to improving the lives of economically vulnerable girls and women in greater Mercer County. Over the past 20 years, the FWG has raised over $1 million and made over $700,000 in grants to programs supporting women and girls in our community. In 2016, The Fund for Women and Girls made our largest-ever investment: we awarded grants totaling $132,500, to six organizations that allow women and girls the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Why Give Together?

Fund for Women and Girls members multiply the impact of their giving by studying issues affecting women and girls, pooling their financial contributions to enhance the impact, and collaboratively directing the fund’s grant making. We have the opportunity to:

  • Become better educated about the issues affecting women and girls in our community, and those organizations dedicated to helping them live safe, healthy and productive lives – through site visits, meeting with experts discussing current issues, and networking events designed to make connections to like-minded members
  • Invest our financial resources and professional expertise in making larger and more meaningful gifts to those organizations we support
  • Collaborate with other like-minded members and organizations to engage in the causes and organizations making a meaningful difference to the lives of women and girls in our community

Benefits of Membership

  • Members who make gifts of $1000 or more annually are Voting Members; they choose grant recipients and may visit prospective and current grantee organizations with Community Foundation staff.

Voting Members and all other annual donors receive the following:

  • An invitation to the annual Grantmaking Dinner with fellow members and nonprofit representatives to hear presentations from finalist grantee organizations (Voting Members will choose our grantee partners at this event).
  • Invitations to members-only educational gatherings throughout the year to learn about issues affecting women and girls as well as best practices in philanthropy
  • Newsletters with updates on the work of our Fund and our grantees.
