Alexander Michael Dodson Memorial Scholarship Fund to provide support for Trenton students06/23/2010
The Alexander Michael Dodson Memorial Scholarship Fund of the Princeton Area Community Foundation recently made a grant to send nine students from Trenton to the Summer Stars program at Stuart Country Day School this summer. The Fund was created to celebrate the memory of Alexander and the joy he brought to all those around him. Born May 3, 2007, to Daniel Dodson and Michelle Emerson of Trenton, Alexander passed away in his sleep from Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC) on December 20, 2008, at just 19 ½ months old. SUDC is similar to SIDS but occurs in children over the age of 12 months. To learn more about SUDC, visit the website at www.sudc.org . Open to talented and resourceful students entering grades 2 through 6, Stuart’s Summer Stars program offers students an atmosphere of fun while supplementing their academic and cultural school programs. Summer Stars participants are stimulated and motivated in the humanities, science and mathematics during the four-week session in July. Students in the Summer Stars program have a fun-filled classroom learning experience supplemented with field trips, guest performers and more. The Community Foundation promotes philanthropy and builds community across Mercer County and central New Jersey. It provides charitable giving expertise to individuals, nonprofits and corporations, and makes grants to nonprofit organizations. Since its founding in 1991, the Community Foundation has granted over $28 million back into the community.
