Greater Mercer Grants: The Ultimate Gift to Your Community
Through the Community Foundation’s Greater Mercer Grants, a growing group of donors is supporting the very best nonprofit work in our region. Being part of this program combines your gift with that of other individuals, corporations, private foundations, and donor advised funds.
“What we needed was an organization whose collective judgment we could trust to put our money to its best use locally, and that of course is the Community Foundation.”
—Gail & Richard Ullman
People who collaborate in this way achieve more than they could alone. The Community Foundation, with its more than two decades of experience and a body of research unmatched anywhere, knows which nonprofits are making headway on our community’s long-term problems.
To date, Greater Mercer Grants has invested $8 million in the most innovative and effective work being done in our region. Each year, more than 120 local nonprofits submit detailed proposals. The Community Foundation’s grants committee reviews them in a rigorous, competitive process. We now award $1 million annually to about forty organizations.
“I spend a lot of time thinking about what is most effective. I can’t answer that question better than the Community Foundation, so I’m happy to put my giving into their hands.”
— Leigh Gibson
Anyone can be part of Greater Mercer Grants. It’s easy to do. You can write a check, make a donation online, or request a transfer from your donor advised fund. Some donors have asked us to direct all their giving to this program. Many people who call our region home — who have raised a family or made a career here — have set up funds that give a percentage to Greater Mercer Grants each year. Several have remembered Greater Mercer Grants in their wills, ensuring that their giving remains relevant over time, no matter what directions our community takes in the future.
