Our Investment Objectives

Our charitable assets held for longterm grantmaking are managed in a pool of investments created specifically for the Community Foundation. The Investment Committee monitors performance on a quarterly basis and oversees our investment policy. Our investments have a longterm time horizon and are structured with the objective of achieving returns greater than the combined total of our grantmaking, administrative costs, and inflation. The guiding philosophy of our management is prudent stewardship of funds entrusted to the Community Foundation by donors for the benefit of the charitable organizations we serve. The Community Foundation uses a total return approach to investment management. Total return describes the change in fund value over time resulting from interest, dividends, and capital appreciation as a result of both realized and unrealized gains.

Our Investment Strategy

Our investments are broadly diversified across asset classes and investment styles in order to enhance results in all market environments. An important feature of the Community Foundation’s portfolio is its asset allocation which includes domestic and international stocks and bonds and investments independent of the markets.
